Too often, the male partner is the forgotten piece of the infertility puzzle. It is not unusual for a woman to get her hormones, ovulatory function, and fallopian tubes tested months before her husband has even had a basic semen analysis. Given that 20% percent of couples are infertile due to abnormal or absent sperm, and that 27% of infertile couples have a combination of male and female factors, it makes sense to evaluate the male sooner rather than later. We partner with Andrology Laboratory Services, experts in semen analysis and processing for insemination. Your semen analysis results will be sent to us unless you designate otherwise. We will call you to discuss results. In the event that they are abnormal, we will refer you to an urologist who specializes in male fertility for evaluation and treatment.

Semen Processing for artificial Insemination (IUI)
The sample can be collected at home or in the laboratory. If the specimen is collected at home, the laboratory must receive the sample within one hour from the time of collection. It must also be kept near body temperature by placing it in a pocket or keeping it close to the body. Whether the specimen is collected at home or in the laboratory, the time of collection and the number of hours since the last emission should be noted. This information will be needed to complete the necessary form when the specimen is delivered to the laboratory.
Abstain from sexual activity for at least 48 hours and not more than 72 hours prior to collection of the specimen. Wash your hands and penis well before producing the specimen. The specimen must be collected by masturbation directly into the jar provided by the Andrology laboratory or your physician's office. If you have difficulties producing a semen sample, contact the Laboratory Director at (312) 335-0075.
