Painful Intercourse

Many gynecological conditions can cause pain during sexual intercourse.

Vaginal dryness, pelvic musculoskeletal problems, scar tissue from prior surgery, endometriosis, fibroids, or other gynecologic conditions can all create pain during intercourse. Once we determine the cause of the problem, we will work with you to alleviate your symptoms.

Painful intercourse is often due to vaginal dryness from hormonal changes or chemotherapy.

Frequently, all that is needed is the right silicone- or water-based lubricant. Fortunately, vaginal lubricants have come a long way since the advent of KY jelly and we are experts at recommending a product that is right for you.

Many women also benefit from vaginal estrogen rings, creams or tablets that work directly on vaginal tissues to increase lubrication and elasticity of thin dry tissue.

If your problem is not dryness, we will determine the cause of the problem and then utilize surgery, medication and pelvic physical therapists as needed.
