Quest Laboratory Services is our provider for comprehensive blood testing. Some insurance carriers require you to have testing at the hospital or through another lab.
Many blood tests, such as cholesterol screens and thyroid tests are performed to screen for the presence of medical problems that you may not be aware of. Other tests are done to obtain additional information about a specific medical condition or problem. Your physician will inform you what tests she is recommending, and why.
Most blood tests need no preparation. In the event that fasting is required or another preparation is needed, we will let you know. Screening cholesterol testing DOES NOT require you to fast.
The medical assistant will have you sit in a chair, apply a tourniquet to your arm, and slide a slender needle into a vein. Using one stick, she is able to obtain as many tubes of blood as needed. She will then put a band-aid on.
Usually there are no after effects. Occasionally there may be a bruise at the blood draw site.
Most blood work results are available in 2 working days. We will call you or e-mail you with results. Please make sure we have daytime contact information or you are registered on this site if you prefer e-mail notification. Some blood tests take longer. We will tell you if that is the case.
I would like to have a blood test that my physician did not order. Can I do it in your office?
If your physician determines this is a medically appropriate test, we will be happy to authorize it. If it is something that is not medically necessary, we will sometimes authorize the test but will require that you pay for it out of pocket.
Another doctor needs me to have blood drawn and it is more convenient for me to have it in your office. Can you do it?
Just have your physician fax a requisition and we will be happy to do it and send him or her the results.
I need to have blood drawn but I live far away. Can I do it someplace else?
We can make arrangements to have your blood drawn at a Quest facility that is more convenient for you.
I tend to pass out when I have blood drawn.
Please tell us if you have a tendency to pass out. We will draw your blood on an exam table instead of in a chair. Please eat or drink something prior to your blood draw.
