3D Ultrasound
We now have 3D/4D ultrasound at
Ob/Gyn Specialists of Northwestern.
Unlike traditional 2D ultrasound,
which scans through the baby and
produces a two-dimensional image
for viewing, 3D/4D ultrasound produces
an image of the exterior of the
baby—an image that "looks
like a baby" to most patients.
As you are aware, we perform 2D
ultrasounds on all patients at
the initial obstetrical appointment
in order to confirm their due date
and again between 18-22 weeks to
assess fetal anatomy.
Maximal amniotic fluid is not
present until 25-32 weeks. If you'd
like to avail yourself of the full
capabilities of 3D/4D ultrasound,
you can schedule a 20-minute photo
session between 28-32 weeks, at
which time you will be given a
CD that includes 3D still images
suitable for email to family members.
Insurance will not pay for this
elective scan unless clinically
necessary. Therefore, you will
be responsible for the $200 up
front. If the baby is not cooperative,
we will reschedule the session
at no extra charge.
Can anyone
get a 3D/4D ultrasound at Ob/Gyn
Specialists of Northwestern? No. We only provide this service
to patients whom we will be delivering.
If you are not a patient of Ob/Gyn
Specialists of Northwestern, we
cannot provide this service.
